Wooden Decking Prices

The cost of wooden decking ranges from R950 to R1300 per square meter. Wooden decking is a popular choice as it looks natural and blends in well with your garden. Good quality wooden decking should last you between 2 to 3 decades

You can choose between a range of wood types, including:

  • Pine
  • Teak
  • Garapa
  • Massaranduba
  • Red Balau
  • Saligna
  • Cumaru (Brazilian Teak)

Pine

Pine is widely available in South Africa and is always a popular choice. It is one of the more cost-effective wooden decking options and will last you for decades, as long as it’s maintained regularly. Pine has a lovely light brown colour which can be enhanced by varnishing.

Teak

Teak is a very hard-wearing and durable wood. It is a great choice for high traffic areas and pool areas. Teak looks attractive with its unique grain pattern and rich brown colour.

Garapa

Garapa is a South American hard wood and is a favourite amongst many decking pros. Its colour ranges from bright golden brown to pale brown and it looks wonderful as a patio or verandah.

Massaranduba

Massaranduba is a hard wood from South America with a warm, natural and rustic look. This makes it perfect for properties with a more natural look. It is a durable wood and is very resistant to insect damage and rot, making it an excellent choice.

Red Balau

Red Balau works very well as a deck for those living in Gauteng or in drier climates. Like Massaranduba, it is less prone to insect damage and rot. It has a rich, red colour and will last you for several decades with regular maintenance and treatment.

Saligna

Saligna is an Australian wood that is very affordable. If you are looking for a neat deck in a solid colour, Saligna is your best bet.

This wood is available in a wide colour range: from a pale red to a deep, reddish brown.

Cumaru (Brazilian Teak)

Looking for a top of the range decking option? Camaru ticks all the boxes, is incredibly durable and will last you for many decades.

Camaru is a medium-textured wood with a rich colour ranging from medium brown to dark brown with streaks of green and different colour brown.

Composite Decking Prices

The price of composite decking ranges from R1500 to R4000 per square metre. Composite decking is manufactured from a blend of natural wood and high quality plastic

Below are some points to consider for composite decking:

  • Higher initial cost
  • Little to no maintenance
  • Resembles wood
  • Very durable
  • Comes in a range of attractive colours
  • Best for swimming areas as less slippery than wood

Pool Decking Prices

Pool decking enhances the enjoyment of your pool and increases the value of your home

You can opt for either wood or composite decking. Composite decking is more popular as it is less slippery than wood. It can also withstand water better and requires less maintenance.

Decking is also a great option for jacuzzis and splash pools and you can choose great extras, such as pergolas, awnings and rails.
